Pick-up 08:30 from Ao Nang, back around 14:30
Hotel pick-up around 08:30, and a drive of about half an hour from Ao Nang to Ao Thalane, the kayak point. There you get a short explanation of paddling, put on a life jacket and set out.
The route passes through a mangrove forest, between roots sticking out of the water, and reaches limestone caves and narrow canyons. There are monkeys there, and they are used to boats.
At midday a meal and a rest, and then those who chose the combined package carry on to the ATV park for half an hour of riding in the forest. Back at the hotel around 14:30.
Entry to it is possible only at high tide, ask about the time when booking
Entry to the lagoon is possible only at high tide. At low tide the way in is too shallow for a kayak, and the route stops before it. This does not depend on the operator or on the weather but on that day's tide table.
If the lagoon is your reason for coming, it is worth asking about the high-tide time when booking and choosing a date accordingly. The rest of the route, the mangroves and the caves, is not affected.
This is an activity, not a boat trip

Ao Nang, Ao Nammao, Had Noppharat and Klong Haeng. From Krabi Town and Klong Muang, a small supplement paid on site.
Only in the combined package, after the meal. A forest ride in a separate park.
The tour runs every day.
The difference is hours, a meal, and an ATV
It sounds like a lot of options, but they differ in only three things: What time you set out, whether there is a meal, and whether there is an ATV. The kayaks themselves are the same in all of them.
The full day with ATVs It is the only one that includes the half hour in the forest. If you are coming for both activities, this is the only option that gives you both.
The two sunset versions They set out in the afternoon and end with the light. The only difference between them is the BBQ dinner: same route, same hours.
The two half-day versions They are the cheapest, without a meal. The morning (08:30–13:00) suits those who want the rest of the day free; the afternoon (13:30–17:30) suits those who like to sleep in.
The simple recommendation: If you are deciding between two that differ only in the meal, it is worth checking what there is in the hotel's area. Sometimes the meal is worth the difference and sometimes it isn't.
and this is not a technical detail but a question to ask when booking
Entry to the lagoon is possible only at high tide. At low tide there is not enough water to get in, and the kayaks simply don't get through.
This means that two people who booked exactly the same trip, on two different days, can get a different experience: one gets into the lagoon and one sees it from outside.
so the high-tide time is a question to ask when booking, not after. We check it and tell you which date suits. If you have flexibility in your dates, this is where to use it, because it is the only thing on this trip that really decides.
The tide shifts from day to day by several tens of minutes, so the departure time that suits this week does not necessarily suit next week.
This is an activity, not a boat trip
The guide explains at the meeting point and does not accompany the boats. You paddle on your own along the whole route.
It is not especially hard, the water is calm and there is no current, but it is Sustained physical effort of an hour or more, in the sun, and that is fundamentally different from sitting in a boat someone else is steering.
A double kayak is the common solution for families: an adult at the back steering and a child at the front. Two people in one kayak each paddle less than each one alone.
Anyone who has never paddled will manage. Anyone with a back or shoulder problem should think about it in advance, because there is no way to switch to another boat midway.
and the monkeys in the mangroves are used to boats and come close. Don't feed them and don't leave food within reach, it's for them and for you too.
You get wet, and that's fine
Even without capsizing, the paddle splashes and the seat is wet. A swimsuit under light clothing is the solution.
There is nowhere to keep things dry in the kayak. This is the item people most regret not bringing.
You get in and out of the water at the starting point. Flip-flops fly off; strapped sandals work.
The mangroves are partly shaded, but the way there and back is open to the sun.
