Our trips to the area include Wat Rong Khun — the White Temple, with its mirror decorations and symbolic designs; Wat Rong Suea Ten, the Blue Temple; and the Black House, Thawan Duchanee's art museum.
Alongside these, the route also includes the Mae Kachan hot springs and a visit to a long-neck tribe village.

The day trip from Chiang Mai is the common format, and it covers most of the sites in one day. It is important to know that this is a long day with a significant drive each way.
Anyone who does not want a day like that can spread the north over three days and sleep along the way: that is the format of our longer routes in the area.

The temples in Chiang Rai are active places of worship and not just an attraction. Clothing that covers shoulders and knees, shoes that are easy to take off and relative quiet: that is what is expected, and it is not unique to Chiang Rai but true of every temple in Thailand.

Chiang Rai is almost always built around Chiang Mai, which is the accommodation and transport base of the north. Anyone who also adds Pai gets three different faces of the same region: a city, mountains and temples.
Anyone coming to Thailand for only a week who also wants the sea: the whole north gets squeezed. In that case it is better to skip it in an orderly way than to rush through it in one day and see nothing.
