and why it takes months

Every figure in the museum is Handiwork by a team of artists, and it lasts between four and six months.

The process starts with Measurements of the person themselves, more than 200 body and facial measurements, alongside hundreds of reference photos from every angle.

The sculpting is done in clay at full size, and from it A mold into which wax is poured. The head and hands are wax; the body is a frame with padding.

The hair is implanted strand by strand. This is the longest part of the work, weeks of work for a single head.

The story behind the name

During the period The French Revolution She was forced to create death masks of guillotine victims, including figures she knew personally. This is the hard part of the story, and it's what turned her craft into a profession.

In 1802 she moved to Britain with her collection of figures, and for 33 years it traveled between cities as a touring exhibition.

In 1835 she opened A permanent exhibit in London on Baker Street, and the museum there still operates today.

Today there are branches in Dozens of cities worldwide, and the Bangkok branch opened in 2010, the first in Southeast Asia.
